Bali citizens support governor to reject tobacco exhibition to be held in Bali

Denpasar, February 17 2014 – Hundreds of students in Bali held a peace action at Denpasar. They totally support and send their gratitude to the Governor of Bali, I Made Mangku Pastika whom have rejected Bali to be the host of Tobacco exhibition Inter-tabac Asia 2014 which is planned to be held at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre on February 27 – 28, 2014.
The Act coordinator, Guseka Arya Cyuta said, “Bali already has a territory regulation which considers about Smoke Free Area in Regulation No.11 year 2011, which has been effectively applied. In my opinion, the governor has been quite aware of that, therefore he rejected the exhibition to be held in Bali. It does not make sense when Bali becomes a host of a Tobacco Exhibition meanwhile it already has a territory regulation considering in Smoke Free Area.”
The action was initiated by the Divisi Khusus Komunitas Mahasiswa Peduli Bahaya Tembakau Himpunan Mahasiswa Kesehatan Masyarakat (Special Division of Student Care Community Tobacco Hazards Public Health Student Association) Udayana University, Bali. At the action, they mobilized hundreds of students in Bali to give their gratitude to the Governor of Bali because of his effort in tobacco controlling in Bali Province, especially by declaring the Territory Regulation of Smoke Free Area in Bali.
At the action, there was also Yosef Rabindanata Nugraha, founder of Indonesia Smoke Free Community whom is also one of the initiators of change.org/StopDortmund petition. This petition was made to collect net citizen’s support to reject the Intertabac Asia exhibition. “This petition has been signed by more than 12.000 net citizens, where 8.000 of them are Indonesian net citizens, 3.000 are German net citizens, and the rest of them are net citizens from other countries. The petition has also been delivered to the Mayor of Dortmund, as the event organizer city which planned to held Inter-tabac Asia in Bali.” – Yosef Rabindanata Nugraha.
Previously, Governor of Bali has often said to the media that he has committed to reject the tobacco exhibition to be held in Bali because of the Territory Regulations about Smoke Free Area. Governor of Bali has also sent a letter to the Indonesia Ministry of Health, forwarded to the National Commissioner of Human Rights, National Commissioner of Tobacco Controlling, Head of Bali’s Territory Police, and Head of Satpol PP Bali on February 4, 2014.

Indonesia Bebas Rokok is a movement initiated by Indonesian youth especially the students whom are concerned in Indonesia’s overcoming of tobacco’s danger. This movement actively makes the citizens, especially the young generation to be aware of tobacco’s danger. Established on November 10, 2012, this community consists of 10 youth in the main board and has thousands “Smoke Free Agents” spread all over Indonesia.
